Welcome to my site. I am Dr. Jayateerth Kulkarni, consultant orthopedic surgeon in Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore. I have specialized in joint replacement, sports medicine, shoulder surgery and complex trauma surgery.

My training in Orthopedics

I obtained my primary medical qualification from Karnataka Medical College Hubli. Afterwards I did my post-graduate training in Orthopedics at PGIMER Chandigarh. Here I obtained my MS (Ortho) and DNB (Ortho) qualifications. I also worked as a senior resident in PGIMER Chandigarh.

Subsequently, I went to England for further training. Here, I did a four-year specialist registrar (SpR) rotation in Orthopaedics on the Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals rotation (South-East Thames), London. I learnt not only joint replacement surgery but also had all-round exposure to all sub-specialties of orthopaedic surgery like arthroscopy, spine surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, foot surgery, etc. There is no area of orthopedic surgery that I am not conversant with. After completing the training I passed the FRCS (Orth) examination.

I continued my training with Fellowship in Shoulder and Upper Limb surgery in Brighton, UK. Here I learnt shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder replacement, elbow surgery (including replacement), wrist arthroscopy and general hand surgery.

I then went to Canada where I did Fellowship training in Adult Trauma and Joint Reconstruction at Sunnybrook Hospital, University of Toronto. Here I worked under Dr. Schatzker who is one of the leading authorities in the field of orthopaedic surgery.

Current orthopedic surgical practice

After completing my training I returned to Bangalore where I have been practicing as consultant orthopedic surgeon. I have nearly 30 years of experience in Orthopaedics. My current practice includes joint replacement surgery of the knee, hip, shoulder and other joints. In addition, I perform joint preserving surgeries like osteotomy and other reconstructive procedures. I also do arthroscopic surgeries of the knee, shoulder, ankle and other joints. I was one of the first surgeons in Bangalore to perform hip resurfacing and revision knee replacements. I have done computer-navigated knee replacements and unicompartmental knee replacements, shoulder resurfacing, reverse shoulder replacement, etc., to name a few.

Joint Replacement (Arthroplasty):

• Replacement of knee, hip, shoulder, elbow and other joints
• Use of advanced techniques like: computer navigated surgery; minimally invasive surgery, custom-fit knee replacement, etc.
• Newer prosthestic designs like: unicompartmental knee replacement, patello-femoral replacement, etc.
• One of the first surgeons in Bangalore to perform Birmingham Hip Resurfacing
• Revision surgery for failed replacements of hip, knee and other joints

Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine 

• Knee: ACL,  PCL and multiple ligament reconstructions; meniscal repairs; surgery for cartilage defects
• Shoulder: surgery for instability, rotator cuff tears, SLAP tears, etc.
• Other joints: elbow, wrist, ankle

Upper limb surgery

• Hand surgery for traumatic injuries and degenerative conditions, including replacement of MCP and PIP joints  

Complex trauma and joint reconstruction

• Pelvic and acetabular fractures
• Joint reconstructive procedures like osteotomies, cartilage restoration procedures, etc.
